I attended Anne’s shade garden class at Kaunoa Senior Center a few weeks ago and was so impressed with Anne’s knowledge and enthusiasm that I asked her to do a site consulting visit at my new home in Pukalani.
When Anne arrived, we walked around the yard to evaluate each planting area. She told me how to improve the existing plants and made suggestions for new plantings to fill things out using established design principles. She takes into account the plants that are already there and uses them in the plan. We discussed the types of plants that could be used in each area depending on lighting, design principles, and my preferences. She breaks the project down into several stages to prevent me from feeling overwhelmed.
After our meeting, she sent me a listing of the areas that we discussed and the plants that we decided upon and suggestions for where to plant them along with many photographs of the various plants. I am looking forward to our visit to the nursery to purchase the plants for the first phase of the project.

I met Anne Gachuhi when I attended her class at Kaunoa Senior Center on tropical shrubs for hedges and borders in November 2018. It was apparent at the class that she was very knowledgeable about tropical plants and garden planning. I took advantage of her Garden Consultation and Home Visit where she spent over two hours at my home. She immediately pointed out the three different pests that were killing my hibiscus plants and gave me detailed instructions on how to eliminate them. She also spent time showing me proper pruning techniques and developed a garden plan which included a shade garden, succulent garden, hedges for my boundary, and an area of "curb appeal" annuals. She guided me in choosing the appropriate and healthy plants at the nursery and supervised placement of them by a landscaper. My yard has never looked so good!
